COMICS AND CINEMA: COMMON GENETIC CODE

Summary: Phenomenon of comics as a subcomponent of the cinema’s ‘genetic code’ is considered; its peculiarities as sequential art and mass media terminating in symbiosis of arts, according to Sergei Eisenstein. Also formation of movie comics, as well as its position in the early cinema context, and attraction cinema as comics revived are treated; reception and innovative role of comics being both artistic and social phenomenon in the process of communication and adjustment are distinguished.

BERLIN SCHOOL: IN SEARCH OF A NEW AESTHETIC METHOD OF DOCUMENTING REALITY IN NARRATIVE FILM

Summary: In order to document life in the epoch of modernity Berlin school tends to develop a modern type of film realism based on the asthetics of minimalism. Film narrative resides not only in banal everyday sketches and close attention to details but also in an attempt to question if authentic representation of reality is possible through art and if reality can be fully comprehended by the audience.
The particular aesthetic method created by Berlin school directors opens for them a possibility to discover and adapt to the screen a wholly new type of social consciousness letting the audience draw their own conclusions and continue to reflect on the experienced film narrative beyond the boundaries of the movie theater.
